Why do you teach? If you're like me, you want to inspire and empower your students. You want to model good thinking and show them the power of asking strong questions, reading widely and critically, writing persuasively, creating fearlessly and building relationships with curiosity and kindness.
This website aims to provide free and accessible support and professional development for international secondary English teachers. You might be new or experienced, part of a huge departmental team or simply the only one in your department.
Here you can:
NOTE: This site is under construction, and the "official" opening is in August. In the meantime, I would love to meet you in the forum as I build.
Sarah Goossens Bevel
I've been in international education for over 20 years, and taught a range of subjects: Music, Drama, English As an Additional Language, Grades 9 & 10 Language Arts, IB English Literature and IB English Language and Literature. I've worked in Malaysia, China and Latvia, and for the past few years I've been both an IB Diploma Programme Coordinator and a High School Principal. My career path has given me good insight into what international teachers need to feel supported, and what students need in order to maximize their learning in the classroom. My happiest moments have been in the English classroom, either learning with students in my class, or watching the magic in other classrooms and learning from other teachers. My biggest struggle has been to stay creative and inspired, when work gets busy. That's why I want to give back through this site.
